A central role for NSC in the funded Earth BioGenome Norway project
The Research Council of Norway (RCN) has funded the Norwegian initiative for a Earth BioGenome Project (EBP-Nor) with 30 million NOK (3 Mill. Euro) for the period of 2021 (August) till 2024.
EBP-Nor is a Biodiversity Genomics project that will produce chromosome-length assemblies using long-read sequencing and scaffolding with HiC of a selected number of species across eukaryotes. Focus will be on “Norwegian” species and consequently northern, arctic and marine species will be strongly represented. The NSC will carry out the PacBio (HiFi) and HiC sequencing, and thus have a prominent role in EBP-Nor. The EBP-Nor project is lead by UiO (CEES) and consortium partners include The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), University of Bergen (UiB), Noerwgian University of Science and technology (NTNU), Nord University, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, SINTEF, REVOcean, The Science Cluster, ArcticZymes Technologies and Norwegian Environment Agency. Elixir Norway will be involved in Data Management and bioinformatics.
