Norwegian Sequencing Centre phasing out 454 sequencing

After more than six years of service, the Norwegian Sequencing Centre has decided to phase out one of our first work-horses, the 454 GS FLX. We will complete the sequencing of all the samples we have in the queue, and will accept new samples for 454 sequencing until the 17th of May 2014.

However, only samples for sequencing on at least ½ plates on the GSL FLX+ are accepted. If you only need sequencing of only one sample (i.e. one ½ plate instead of two), please contact us (cees-seq@sequencing.uio.no) and we will try to find another sample to sequence together with yours. However, we cannot guarantee that we will succeed with that.

NSC offers several alternatives for 454 sequencing, both on the PacBio RS (for de novo genome sequencing and amplicon sequencing) and the Illumina MiSeq (small genome resequencing, metagenomics and amplicon sequencing). Please contact us at post@sequencing.uio.no if you want to know about these options.

If you do require 454 sequencing after the NSC stops offering this, there are other sequencing facilities that can help you. Roche/454 will provide service and support to 454 instruments, parts, reagents, and consumables until mid-2016.
